Wind mitigation inspection diagramIf you can provide a roofing permit dated after March 1st 2002 or the home was built after 2004 you will receive a credit.  This means when you replace your roof, you should have a Wind Mitigation Inspection completed to show the new roof.  If you have your roof replaced, insure the roofer uses an SWR (Secondary Water Barrier) that meets Florida code.  This is a barrier between the roof decking and the roofing material that helps keep water out if you were to lose some roof covering during a storm.  The barrier will entitle you to another credit.

If the nail types, lengthes and spacing that hold down the roof decking to the trusses or rafters are not sufficient to meet the requirements to qualify for a credit,  The correct fasteners can be added at the time the roof is re-roofed.  This will get you another credit.

If you do not have the correct fastener holding the trusses/rafters to the walls, or do not have the correct amount of nails holding the fasteners on, these can be added to qualify you for another credit.

Lastly, If your windows and doors are not protected by Florida approved hurricane  protection, such as, Impact rated doors and windows, shutters,  panels etc. then by adding this type of protection, you can qualify for yet another credit.
